Why choose Dennings?
We offer representation for both private and publicly funded matters. We also have a 24-hour emergency call-out service enabling our criminal defence experts to attend police stations on request. We regularly attend the local courts, but we also operate a national service for all of our clients.
Dennings Solicitors prides itself on providing a tailor-made defence to all people who are accused of a crime. No offence is too complicated or too simple for us to defend. From public order or assault offences to the much more serious crimes, such as terrorism and murder. Our criminal defence team will provide a professional and dedicated service. All work conducted is confidential from the point of consultation and we will keep you updated about all developments in your case.
Do I have to have a solicitor?
No! You always have the option of representing yourself. However, we would always recommend that you have a solicitor to help you explain your side of the story. Whether you are innocent or guilty, being charged with a crime can be a daunting time and it can be difficult convincing a court without proper representation. Innocence or guilt may often appear obvious, but even then, it may not be as obvious as it first appears.
If you instruct Dennings, you would be instructing a firm that cares about you and is committed to providing you with an excellent service.
Antony Schiller speaks Hungarian and has represented Hungarian nationals in extremely complex criminal cases especially people trafficking and fraud/dishonesty matters.
The firm has represented clients defending Extradition Proceedings following arrests under European Arrest Warrants. Antony has also forged close links with Hungarian lawyers and interpreters to assist in the provision of legal services and assistance to Hungarians in the United Kingdom and those individuals in Hungary requiring legal services from a United Kingdom solicitor’s practice. This has even involved travelling to Hungary to take instructions from Hungarians who face proceedings in the United Kingdom.
The firm has vast experience of preparing cases with the use of a variety of expert witnesses (including interpreters of many languages) and, where necessary, experienced barristers.
Is Legal Aid available?
The firm has a contract with the Legal Aid Agency to provide Legal Aid funded services. Everyone is entitled to free advice and representation at the Police Station regardless of their financial position. The availability of Legal Aid at other times depends upon the situation and may depend on your financial position. Speak to one of our team to find out if Legal Aid would be available in your circumstances.
If you are not eligible for legal aid, we can still represent you. We will discuss fees with you and may agree a payment plan if necessary.
What will happen in court?
A lawyer will meet you at the court building before the hearing starts. They will go through the allegations with you and explain whether your case will be heard in the Magistrates Court or whether it will go to the Crown Court.
They will discuss each option with you in detail, explaining the process and the possible outcomes in your case.
